OW2 Technology Council

About the OW2 Technology Council

As per section 6.02d of the OW2 Bylaws, the scope of the OW2 Technology Council (TC) is to:

  • build the overall technical architecture
  • define technical guidelines
  • provide technology validation
  • make project lifecycle decisions (see the projects page and the lifecycle criteria)
  • monitor production and overall projects consistency
  • define the organization’s architecture vision
  • validate the founding charters of Projects and Initiatives
  • approve reuse of non-OW2 code into Projects and Initiatives

The Technology Council also defines OW2's architecture vision, it validates the founding charters of Projects and Initiatives and it approves the reuse of non-OW2 code into Projects and Initiatives. The Technology Council provides guidelines to the OW2 Management Office regarding the evolution of the OW2 technical platform.

Technology Council Members

The TC is composed of OW2 project leaders and of additional hands-on open-source practitioners.

The Technology Council is run by:

  • its elected Chairman, Daniele Gagliardi from Engineering
  • the OW2 CTO, Stéphane Laurière.

  • User management service v2 - a revamping of the OW2 user management service, based on  LemonLDAP::NG and FusionDirectory, two OW2 projects
  • Forge v2 - a new forge for OW2, GitLab is currently under evaluation and setup
  • Contest 2016 - the annual OW2 event for worldwide students to get a hands-on experience on open-source software engineering

  • Lutece has earned the mature level.
  • The TC recently welcomed several new projects to the OW2 code base:
    • FusionDirectory - Standard interface for the management of LDAP servers
    • VESPA - Virtual Environments Self-Protecting Architecture, an architecture and software framework written in Python for security monitoring of IaaS and multi-IaaS infrastructures.
    • Nanocloud Community - A fully packaged Virtual Desktop Infrastructure & Remote Desktop Service to transform any legacy software (heavy/rich client) into a SaaS solution (reachable through a Web browser) without any modification of code of the legacy software. 
    • Prelude - Prelude is a Universal Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) system. It collects, normalizes, sorts, aggregates, correlates and reports all security-related events, using the Intrusion Detection Message Exchange Format. Gilles Lehmann, project leader and product manager at C-S is joining the OW2 Technology Council.
    • Imixs-Workflow - A workflow engine for human-centric business applications based on the BPMN 2.0 Standard, Imixs-Workflow enables developers to describe and execute workflows in all types of business applications. Ralph Soika, project founder and CTO of Imixs Software Solutions GmbH, is joining the OW2 Technology Council.
