Minutes

Oscar best practices guides

Notes and proposals:

  • DGA: we may turn the content into a book some day, see for instance Pro Git: https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2
  • DGA: let's evaluate the publication tools for multi-format dissemination (EPUB, PDF, audio, ...) - such as Booktype
  • DGA: OMM has an academia view point, the best practices should promote ist "embedding" in hands-on industry aspects
  • DGA: at some point we may consider creating surveys for collecting best practices more widely
  • SLA: regarding the license, beside attribution and share alike, should we also enforce 'non-commercial' or allow commercial use? Pro: commercial use would favour dissemination. Cons: this could get out of control.
  • The discussion around the best practices will be twofold: discussion within the TC (contributors), and public discussion (with external contributors and with the readers). The TC discussion will take place on the TC mailing-list. The public discussion will take place on the Oscar public list rather than through wiki comments which are difficult to managed and to follow-up.
  • We will create a set of wiki pages for everyone to contribute, first on general resources for each OMM section
  • The resource gathering will revolve around the following structure:
    • Articles
    • Books
    • Videos (distinguish between short introductions and real lectures)
    • Software
    • Sites
  • The guides will be helpful for the OW2 Contest participants, let's try to deliver a first consistent set of resources by Fri. 1 July, so that we can provide the contestants with material that will help them during their work right at the beginning of the Contest Mon. 4 July.

Documentation best practices

  • DGA mentions the importance of searchable code snippets as part of the documentation. He will look how they are managed / integrated in Tuleap. Some notes around code snippets were added to the documentation best pratices page.
  • Let's add a section about the publication process

Oscar Scorecard

  • SLA:  Oscar Scorecard is an application for collecting and presenting metrics relating to open-source software projects, and for computing project scorecards aiming at helping developers and users assess the maturity / market readiness of a project. It's an outcome of previous OW2 work and from collaborative projects such as Riscoss and AppHub. It is deployed on the OW2 projects site
  • DGA: a mobile app for Oscar Scorecard would be useful and would promote OW2 in the app stores
